Tressa Lee (Morehead) Neumann, 91, of Hanston, Kansas passed away Sunday, September 18th, 2022 at Hodgeman County Intermediate Swing Bed in Jetmore, KS peacefully in the presence of her family.
Tressa was born May 6, 1931 in a sod house on the Morehead homestead in rural Alamota, KS to Ward and Rose (Norton) Morehead. Tressa’s family moved from Kansas to western Colorado during the Dirty 30’s. In high school, Tressa was a cheerleader, participated in softball, she was also the All-School Sweetheart Queen. She and her sisters also packed peaches and worked in orchards, she fed the family chickens, and milked their cows. Their parents taught the four daughters the importance of hard work and responsibility at a very young age.
Tressa married Leo Musslin Jr, they had four children: Robert, Elizabeth, Rose, and Steven. She married Walter Neumann on July 6, 1963, which one daughter was born, Barbara.
Tressa was a devoted wife and homemaker for her family. She was a beautician who opened her own beauty shop through her home in Dodge City, KS. She loved the conversation with customers, and being able to help out those in her community. She moved to Hanston in 1971 with Walt Neumann and they opened a grocery store in the town called Neumann’s Jack and Jill. This was a true family business as Tressa and Walt worked this store with their children. She was an extremely patient and loving caregiver. After closing the family grocery store due to Walter’s declining health, Tressa began working at the local COOP in Hanston, KS. She worked at the Coop until her retirement.
She was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid pitch card player, and she and Walter loved playing cards on couple’s nights with friends. She and Walter loved spending time outside on the weekends. They enjoyed camping and fishing at the lake, with their children.
Tressa’s Faith played an important and defining role in her life. Her faith strengthened her through times of tragedy, including the loss of her beloved husband Walter, and the premature deaths of her two sons Robert and Steven.
